A down alternative comforter will look and feel a lot like a thick, fluffy quilt, but instead it is filled with synthetics, llama and alpaca wool, or silk. They are widely used by a person who want a hyper allergenic type of bedding and that is why they are often called a great alternative.

They are well known for being extraordinarily light, soft, warm and luxurious. That is why aside from them being hyper allergenic, this type of bedding is so popular. You will be amazed how good you feel while you sleep with this type of bedding.

The feathers in this bed covering are laid flat with central quill. The feathers fill it up and make it soft and plush and extremely comfortable. The feathers also give it the ability to hold in body heat while at the same time allowing moisture to escape. This is very unique to this kind of bedding and is often referred to as wicking.

As the more feathers the more wicking will occur and the better the type of bed covering. So these are rated by how much filling they have inside.  The way they measure the rating is they are washed ahead of time. Then they are sterilized. Then the different manufacturers take an ounce of the beddings space and measure it in cubic inches. You will find that very expensive ones might have a fill rating of over 700 cubic inches, while a cheaper and lesser quality one will be closer to 300. If you just want an average then most people choose a rating of about 500.You will find the higher the rating, the fluffier and the more warmth it will provide for you as you sleep.

Although they are very washable most brands recommend they be professionally cleaned in an industrial washer. Always make sure you follow any and all instructions that come with your bedding.
